Pragmatic and Permeable Egalitarianism:

AbstractThe social world of prisons is typically described as hierarchical in the prison sociological literature where offence type, displays (hegemonic)masculinity and involvement informal economy impact prisoners’ standing. Based on fieldwork interviews (N=181) with men women seven different Norwegian prisons, this article describes prisoner cultures such hierarchies were either absent or little significance. Rather than pointing out differences status standing, prisoners interviewed tended to insist that they equal same. In order make sense finding, which contrasts dominant accounts literature, engages scholarship role roots egalitarianism society. Studier har vist at lovbruddstype, (hegemonisk) maskulinitetog involvering i den illegale økonomien betydning for fangenes og posisjon. Basert på feltarbeid intervju med menn kvinner syv norske fengsler viser denne artikkelen slike hierarki var enten fraværende eller av liten betydning. I stedet å påpeke forskjeller posisjon vektla fangene ble intervjuet de like likeverdige. For forstå dette forskningsfunnet, bryter beskrivelser deler forskningslitteraturen, henter inspirasjon fra forskning om egalitære kulturen.
